The installation projects should clearly address the core themes of “Atmospheric Waves”. Whether it is through aeolian effects or sonification of the wind and climate conditions of Liepaja, we want to encourage listening as a way of learning and knowing about local climate.

“Atmospheric Waves” aims to recognize the diversity of artistic approaches and relations that have influenced the broad concept of sound art in recent decades. This includes shared crossovers from new media art, sound studies, new music, sculpture, architecture and design. Developments in technology such as low power computing, remote sensing and data monitoring have also increased potential connections between artistic practices and the climate and natural sciences. In addition to this, the expanding fields of ‘sensory studies’ within humanities and the social sciences continue to raise important questions about how we relate to our environments.
